Preview: Montoursville Warriors vs. Muncy Indians
Montoursville and Muncy are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Montoursville Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Muncy Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Montoursville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 71-48 margin over Neumann Regional Academy. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Montoursville just coasted through the last quarter.
It was another big night for Quinn Ranck, who scored 21 points along with five assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Mussina, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Muncy came tearing into Wednesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 68-38 victory over South Williamsport on the road. Muncy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 23 points or more this season.
Patrick Zalonis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points along with five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Nathan Rogers was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Montoursville is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Muncy, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Montoursville have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Muncy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Montoursville lost to Muncy on the road by a decisive 63-49 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Montoursville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
