Basketball Game Preview: Ajo Red Raiders vs. Gila Bend Gila Monsters

The Ajo Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Gila Bend Gila Monsters at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ajo will be strutting in after a victory while Gila Bend will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Thursday, Ajo beat Glenview College Prep 26-19. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Raiders.

Meanwhile, Gila Bend was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 72-33 loss at the hands of Tohono O'Odham. One positive for the Gila Monsters, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Ajo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.5 points per game. As for Gila Bend, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.

Ajo beat Gila Bend 20-11 in their previous matchup back in January of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ajo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
