Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 478 yards on Nov. 18, 2018 against the Los Angeles Rams, marking the highest yardage total in his NFL career. But that total is nowhere close to the passing yardage he accumulated in a single game as a prep player at Whitehouse (Texas).
The Super Bowl LIV winner threw for 619 yards in a 65-60 loss to Poteet during his senior year, giving him the highest single-game yardage total at the high school level of any NFL Week 1 starting quarterback. And it's not even close.
MaxPreps has compiled the highest single-game prep total for every NFL quarterback who started in Week 1 of the 2022 season. Mahomes is 75 yards ahead of the No. 2 quarterback, Derek Carr of the Las Vegas Raiders, who threw for 544 yards while at Bakersfield Christian.
Mahomes does not have the highest touchdown total, however, as Joe Burrow holds that distinction after throwing eight touchdowns in a 55-46 over Fairland.
Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles has 554 combined yards from his highest passing game as he threw for 373 yards and added 181 on the ground for Channelview in a 70-49 win over Port Arthur Memorial.
