Northeastern had won eight straight games and Noah Payne did his part to make it nine on Saturday. The Northeastern Knights walked away with a 64-54 victory over the Union County Patriots thanks in part to Payne, who went 10 of 12 on his way to 25 points and four steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.
The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Seal, who posted five assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.
Despite the loss, Union County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grady Coyle shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. Coyle also set a new season-high mark in assists with six. Fenton Coyle was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.
Northeastern's win bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Union County, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
