Volleyball Recap: Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran Comes Up Short

Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran and Newman Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran had to settle for second. They fell 3-1 to the Fighting Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in September.

Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.

Leading Newman Catholic to victory were Kate Kerns and Lauren Thiel. Kerns had 16 assists and four digs, while Thiel had nine kills and seven digs. That's the most digs Thiel has posted since October 7th.

Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 19-17. As for Newman Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-16 record this season.
