Softball Game Preview: Payson Lions vs. Syracuse Titans

The Payson Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Syracuse Titans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Payson has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wasatch hit Payson with a six-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions fell 16-11 to the Wasps. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ellie Prior led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were her first of the season. London Armstrong was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Syracuse's offense. They lost 10-0 to Mountain Crest last Tuesday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Titans were not able to get on the board.

Payson's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Syracuse, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Payson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Syracuse struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Payson came out on top in a nail-biter against Syracuse in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
