Softball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the Eastside Catholic Crusaders by a score of 4-3. The Lynx were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 14-4.

Ruby Hughes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Brienna Minton and Nash Cochran did some serious damage despite the final result: Minton went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Cochran went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Cochran has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Dakota Blokker, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Eastside Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Eastside Catholic's side, Kailee McCauley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. McCauley was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

McCauley wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Crawford, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Lincoln will square off against Seattle Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eastside Catholic, they will face off against Newport - Bellevue at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crusaders are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
