Baseball Recap: Larkin Takes a Loss

Larkin had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it 12. They came up short against the South Elgin Storm, falling 10-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Storm this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Monday.

As for South Elgin, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For South Elgin's part, Connor Lund was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Lund was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for South Elgin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Justin Pold was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. South Elgin is undefeated when Pold posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Zacharia Barkho, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Larkin has already played their next contest, a 5-2 defeat against Fenton on the 24th. As for South Elgin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Glenbard East on the 24th.
