Basketball Recap: Charlotte Catholic's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Charlotte Catholic was feeling good fresh off their 79-54 takedown of East Mecklenburg last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Charlotte Catholic Cougars took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marvin Ridge Mavericks on Friday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Charlotte Catholic lost, don't look at Chris Eagan. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. Eagan's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Mack Jordan also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Charlotte Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marvin Ridge only pulled down four offensive boards.

Henry Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Marvin Ridge, going 7 of 10 en route to 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Those six assists gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Dunn, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points.

With the defeat, Charlotte Catholic broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-4. As for Marvin Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.

Charlotte Catholic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-47 victory against Providence on the 24th. As for Marvin Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 70-54 loss against Weddington on the 24th.
