Baseball Recap: Andover Central Comes Up Short

If Andover Central was feeling good fresh off their 19-0 takedown of Dodge City on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jaguars fell just short of the Maize Eagles by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in April.

Andover Central has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Maize, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Andover Central will face off against Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Thursday. As for Maize, they will challenge Bishop Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Eagles have won five straight at home, while the Golden Eagles won 11 straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
