Basketball Game Preview: Geneva Panthers vs. Avon Braves

The Geneva Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Avon Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Geneva sitting on three straight victories and Avon on five.

Last Wednesday, everything went Geneva's way against Midlakes as Geneva made off with a 61-36 win. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Screaming Eagles are ranked 632nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Avon beat Wheatland-Chili 54-45 on Tuesday.

Avon's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points over those games. As for Geneva, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

Geneva couldn't quite finish off Avon when the teams last played back in January of 2024 and fell 49-47. Can Geneva avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
