Softball Recap: Mark Keppel Comes Up Short

If Mark Keppel was feeling good fresh off their 9-0 takedown of Alhambra last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Aztecs came up short against the Crescenta Valley Falcons on Monday, falling 8-1.

Robyn Guitron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mark Keppel saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Saldivar, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Mark Keppel's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Crescenta Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Mark Keppel and Crescenta Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Aztecs (ranked 320th) will meet Montebello (ranked 948th) at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Crescenta Valley will challenge Hoover at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (90 vs. 858).
