Baseball Recap: Floyd Central Comes Up Short

Floyd Central had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 14-12 to make it four. They lost 9-1 to the Paintsville Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in March.

Floyd Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kolten Crum, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Paintsville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Paintsville's side, Anderson Lauffer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. With that strong performance, Lauffer is now averaging an impressive 6.5 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Alex Kimbler was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Lukas Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Floyd Central will venture away from home to challenge Hazard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Paintsville, they will host Shelby Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
