Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ichabod Crane

Ichabod Crane proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Schalmont Sabres. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Riders have posted since April 16th.

Torri Cutler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Emma Holmberg was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

The win was the third in a row for Ichabod Crane, bringing their record up to 11-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Schalmont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season.

Ichabod Crane and Schalmont should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Riders (ranked 79th) will meet La Salle Institute (ranked 557th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Schalmont will square off against Voorheesville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (133 vs. 379).
