Baseball Game Preview: Whitehaven Tigers vs. Southwind Jaguars

Whitehaven is 6-1 against Southwind since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Whitehaven Tigers are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will square off against the Southwind Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Whitehaven and Overton finished up their matchup with a 10-10 draw.

Jaylon Dodson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 21 Ks. Those 21 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, while Southwind put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Oakhaven. Southwind was the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Oakhaven. Considering the Jaguars have won three contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mitchell Stansbury was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-2. Johnathan Loza-Ruiz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while going 2-for-3.

Southwind has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. With that tie, Whitehaven's record moves to 1-0-1.

Everything went Whitehaven's way against Southwind in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Whitehaven made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whitehaven since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
