Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop Wood Vikings vs. Devon Prep Tide

Archbishop Wood has gone 6-1 against Devon Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vikings will host the Tide at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Archbishop Wood's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Nueva Esperanza with a sharp 15-0 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Will Lutz looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Archbishop Wood let Chase Cavallaro and Caden Vacca run wild. Cavallaro went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Vacca went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Vacca has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Shane Broadwater, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Archbishop Wood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Devon Prep waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Cahillite 8-0.

Devon Prep picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 7-8. As for Archbishop Wood, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.

Archbishop Wood beat Devon Prep 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Tide have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
