Softball Recap: East Mecklenburg Comes Up Short

East Mecklenburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ballantyne Ridge Wolves.

Bella Welch stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Geneva Garvais was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Even though they lost, East Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. This was only their second loss (out of seven games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

East Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Ballantyne Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.

Coming up, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when East Mecklenburg Eagles face off against Rocky River Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17 runs per game on average), something East Mecklenburg will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ballantyne Ridge, they will venture away from home to challenge Myers Park at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Myers Park has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.91 runs per game on average), something Ballantyne Ridge will no doubt try to take advantage of.
