Baseball Recap: Cloudland Takes a Loss

Cloudland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tri-Cities Christian Eagles.

Brayden Whitaker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Walker Gouge was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Kevin Cabrera-Medina also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Cloudland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Tri-Cities Christian, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-9.

Coming up, Tri-Cities Christian will face off against Cornerstone Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cloudland will be paying especially close attention to the Eagles' contest: after the Eagles face off against the Lions, they'll take on Cloudland again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
