Softball Recap: Shamokin Area Has No Trouble Against Lewisburg

Shamokin Area won the last time they faced Lewisburg and things went their way on Thursday too. The Indians put the hurt on the Green Dragons with a sharp 16-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

ALIANA BRIGHTBILL was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. BRIGHTBILL was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shamokin Area got a massive performance out of AVA HUGHES, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles HUGHES has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was AUTUMN KEHLER, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

Shamokin Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Shamokin Area's record now sits at 4-7. As for Lewisburg, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Coming up, Shamokin Area will challenge Selinsgrove at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Seals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.64 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lewisburg, they will take on Mifflinburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Green Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
