The Tualatin Timberwolves will square off against the Sprague Olympians at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Tualatin's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Sprague has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Tualatin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let South Salem get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Wednesday. While the Timberwolves didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Reese Strode made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Strode was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Madisen Garrett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Sydney Jensen was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Tualatin hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Sprague sidestepped Central for a 5-4 win.
Shayla Qualls spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brenna Morris, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Tualatin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. Sprague's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6.
Sprague's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tualatin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332.
