Basketball Recap: Cade Sonday's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cimarron over Macksville

Cimarron lost against Macksville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cimarron Bluejays fell 64-57 to the Macksville Mustangs. The Bluejays' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Cimarron lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cade Sonday, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Trace Kopper, who posted 14 points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Cimarron was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Macksville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Esparza, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. The contest was Esparza's 19th in a row with at least ten points. Nolan Adams was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards.

Cimarron's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Macksville, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Cimarron will be taking part in a tournament against Inman at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cimarron has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Macksville, they will take on St. John in a tournament on Friday. Macksville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.5 points per game this season.
