Baseball Game Preview: Maine West Warriors vs. Vernon Hills Cougars

For the second straight game, Maine West will face off against Vernon Hills. The Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Maine West took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Vernon Hills. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

For Vernon Hills' part, Robert Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Connor Brockway made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Perritt, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Maine West's win bumped their record up to 8-18. As for Vernon Hills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season.
