Baseball Recap: Blooming Grove Comes Up Short

Blooming Grove had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Palmer Bulldogs, falling 14-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 19-4 loss on Tuesday.

As for Palmer, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games.

For Palmer's part, Cooper Stockton made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Stockton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric Cisneros, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Palmer is undefeated when Cisneros posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sutton Maddox, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Blooming Grove is set to face off against their familiar foe Rice at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Palmer will challenge rival Grandview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
