Basketball Game Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Culver Academies Eagles

The Lowell Red Devils will be taking part in a tournament against the Culver Academies Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Lowell was able to grind out a solid victory over Hobart, taking the game 37-26.

Lowell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elysia Laub out in front who posted eight points along with 15 boards and seven blocks. With that strong performance, Laub is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Reagan Claus was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile, Culver Academies earned a 57-45 victory over South Bend Riley on Saturday.

Culver Academies' win came from a few key players Lowell will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Hannah Kresser, who went 5 for 7 en route to 12 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Brumm, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 16 points.

Culver Academies is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Lowell, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Lowell lost to Culver Academies on the road by a decisive 51-37 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Lowell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
