Softball Recap: Shiprock Chieftains vs. Kirtland Central Broncos
Shiprock had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-17 to make it five. They came up short against the Kirtland Central Broncos, falling 16-1. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Chieftains couldn't push the score so high this time.
As for Kirtland Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. The result was nothing new for Kirtland Central, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
For Kirtland Central's part, Rory Benally was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Benally has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kirtland Central got a massive performance out of Tamirra Chee, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Chee has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Easton Myhre, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
