The Constitution Generals will take on the Science Leadership Academy Rockets at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Constitution is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They put the hurt on Olney with a sharp 20-10 victory. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Gabrielle Geathers was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Potts, who went 1-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.
Constitution always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Science Leadership Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Philadelphia Performing Arts on Wednesday. The Rockets blew past the Knight 11-1. The Rockets are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Karlee McDowell made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Science Leadership Academy got a massive performance out of Colette Szymkowski, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and three RBI. Katherine Diemer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The win got Science Leadership Academy back to even at 5-5. As for Constitution, their record now sits at 6-4.
Constitution might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Science Leadership Academy when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
