Olivia Hensley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Baker, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, East Gaston fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cherryville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ironmen by a score of 4-3. The match marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Kyndall Godley and Madi Perrigo were huge no matter where they played even without the win. Throwing, Godley didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Perrigo tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, Godley posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Godley scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Perrigo scored a run while going 2-for-6.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelsi Norris, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
Even though they lost, East Gaston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive contests.
Forestview is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. With the loss, East Gaston broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-2.
East Gaston's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Forestview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for East Gaston, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Forestview keep running through batters, or will East Gaston buck the trend?
