Basketball Game Preview: Mingus Marauders vs. Estrella Foothills Wolves

The Mingus Marauders will challenge the Estrella Foothills Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Mingus is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Prescott on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mingus was dealt a 91-39 loss at the hands of Prescott. The Marauders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 58-18.

Meanwhile, Estrella Foothills was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 76-72 to Cactus. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Estrella Foothills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brayden Chojnowski went 10-for-18 on his way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Chojnowski a new career-high in points. Tony Lopez was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 19 points and five rebounds.

Estrella Foothills' loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Mingus, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-16.

Mingus took their victory against Estrella Foothills in their previous meeting back in February of 2016 by a conclusive 81-58. Does Mingus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Estrella Foothills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
