Zeeland West entered their tilt with West Ottawa on Friday with ten consecutive wins dating back to last season, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 28-24 W against the Panthers. Given the Dux's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Panthers are ranked 108th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abel Anaya, who threw for 172 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 37 yards. West Ottawa's leading receiver Ron Ferguson was Anaya's top target yet again, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.

Zeeland West's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for West Ottawa, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Zeeland West will welcome Whitehall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Ottawa, they will be playing at home against Grandville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Panthers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
