Softball Recap: West Shamokin Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

West Shamokin won against Northern Cambria last Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The West Shamokin Wolves were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Portage Mustangs. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Avery Elkin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Elkin was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, West Shamokin got a massive performance out of Cameron Vandervort, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madi Keirn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

West Shamokin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage only posted an OBP of .250.

West Shamokin's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.9 runs. As for Portage, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, West Shamokin will head out to square off against Armstrong at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Portage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marion Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
