Basketball Recap: Mccallum Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Miranda Digiovanni and Emy Chen

McCallum lost against Bastrop back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The McCallum Knights took a 62-43 bruising from the Bastrop Bears. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 834th, while the Bears are ranked 266th).

McCallum's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Emy Chen, who went 5 of 11 en route to 17 points, and Miranda DiGiovanni, who posted 13 points and five boards. DiGiovanni is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played.

Bastrop was led to victory by Navaeh Jones and Keyaira Limuel. Jones dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Limuel went 8 for 14 on her way to 20 points and six boards. Alaysia Williams was another key player, putting up six points and seven assists.

McCallum dropped their record down to 11-17 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Bastrop, their victory bumped their record up to 32-4.

McCallum didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-20 loss against Georgetown on the 10th. As for Bastrop, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-37 win against Weiss on the 10th.
