League recap: Magnolia stuns Lakeside in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Magnolia, who took down 81st ranked Lakeside, 31-26.

Fairview added to the longest winning streak in 5A South this week by beating White Hall, 39-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Cardinals.

The Rams' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. garrett carson threw for 292 and 3 touchdowns and clint smedley had 164 yards receiving. On the ground beau uzick chipped in 52 yards. ryan crumpton helped Lakeside's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 61 yards.

He went 15-35 with 2 interceptions.

Uzick was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 52 yards as Lakeside fell to the Panthers. blakely lawless also contributed to the rushing game with 21 yards on the ground.

Lakeside's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carson has thrown for 1,013 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while smedley has 17 catches for 308 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Fairview takes on Magnolia. Buck James' team is in first place, while John Panter's team is in fifth place.

The Panthers moved up to 114 from 150 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A South. Magnolia climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Jared Mcbride's team 31-26.
