Baseball Game Preview: Gilman Pirates vs. Spencer Rockets

The Gilman Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Spencer Rockets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilman will be strutting in after a victory while Spencer will be coming in after a defeat.

Gilman is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 12, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Stanley-Boyd 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Dawson Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Connor Nichols was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Talyn Podolak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Spencer lost 12-3 to Auburndale on Thursday. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win (which was Gilman's third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spencer, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
