Basketball Recap: Cumby Takes a Loss

After flying high against Boles last Tuesday, Cumby came back down to earth. The Cumby Trojans were outmatched by the Cooper Bulldogs and fell 77-48. The Trojans have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Cumby's loss on Monday came despite strong showings from Chett Vaughan and Chayton Vaughan. Chett went 7 of 17 on his way to 27 points and seven rebounds, while Chayton went 6 of 13 on his way to 15 points. Chett is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season.

John Ramos had an outrageously good game for Cooper as he went 9 of 17 on his way to 23 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryean Mapps, who posted eight points and three steals.

Cumby's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Cooper, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cumby won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cumby is facing Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy at the right time seeing as Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Cooper, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Pioneer Tech & Arts Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cooper has five straight wins, Pioneer Tech & Arts Academy has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
