Basketball Recap: Las Cruces Piles Up the Points Against El Dorado

Las Cruces picked up another tournament win on Friday. They breezed by the El Dorado Aztecs to the tune of 63-23. The Bulldawgs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 26 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Bethzy Quinones, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Quinones is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Danae Pacheco, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 15 points.

Quinones wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Las Cruces was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Dorado only posted five assists.

El Dorado's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leemae Maldonado, who posted seven points, and Ivy Estrada, who had two points.

Las Cruces is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for El Dorado, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Las Cruces didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-45 win against Piedra Vista on the 28th. As for El Dorado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 37-28 victory against Alamogordo on the 28th.
