Soccer Game Preview: Petal vs. Brandon

Petal is 1-9 against Brandon since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Petal Panthers will challenge the Brandon Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Petal is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against West Jones on Friday. Petal fell just short of West Jones by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Brandon faced Madison Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Brandon came up short against Madison Central, falling 4-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Bulldogs haven't been shut out since back in December of 2024.

Petal's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2. As for Brandon, they moved to 9-4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Petal skirted past Brandon 1-0 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Petal since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
