Softball Recap: Dansville Comes Up Short

Dansville extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the Hornell Red Raiders. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 19-6 to the Red Raiders when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hornell, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Hornell's part, Raegan Evingham made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Evingham was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Izabella Gardner and Lyla Dyring did most of the damage at the plate: Gardner went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Dyring went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Dyring a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madyson Conner, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Dansville will challenge Perry at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.29 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hornell, they will square off against Coxsackie-Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
