Baseball Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. P.K. Yonge Blue Wave

The Gainesville Hurricanes will challenge the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Gainesville is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They blew past Eastside 12-1.

Taylor Brewer was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Chris Eckhardt, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Gainesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only posted an OBP of .381.

Meanwhile, P.K. Yonge had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against Oak Hall on Tuesday as P.K. Yonge made off with a 10-4 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Blue Wave have posted against the Eagles since March 5, 2020.

Darius Medley made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Medley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Preston Splitt, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gainesville might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from P.K. Yonge in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Gainesville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
