The Yerington Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Battle Mountain Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Battle Mountain will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Yerington extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Incline.

Erika Landa and Casey Bobrick made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Landa didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Bobrick pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Landa got on base in three of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Bobrick went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Landa has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on America Hernandez, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Conway, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Yerington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Battle Mountain got the win against Pershing County on Saturday by a conclusive 22-4. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Aspen Swanger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Battle Mountain got a massive performance out of Addison Matheus, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Kiana Gonzales was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Yerington pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Battle Mountain, their record is now 14-3.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Yerington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Battle Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .669. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Yerington might still be hurting after the 15-8 defeat they got from Battle Mountain in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
