Baseball Game Preview: Mendon Vikings vs. Canandaigua Academy Braves

The Mendon Vikings will take on the Canandaigua Academy Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Mendon has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Mendon will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Sutherland, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Knights 4-3 on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by just one run.

Ethan Postle tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Noah Sansone was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jackson Forney was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Mendon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canandaigua Academy). They came out on top against Batavia by a score of 15-10 on Friday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Mendon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Canandaigua Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

Mendon beat Canandaigua Academy 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
