Baseball Recap: Hayward Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mt. Eden, Hayward was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They never let the San Mateo Bearcats get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. That four run margin sets a new team best for the Farmers this season.

Hayward's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jakye Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Hayward's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8. As for San Mateo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayward will head out to face off against Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Farmers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for San Mateo, they will head out on the road to challenge Half Moon Bay at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
