Softball Recap: McMinn County Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but McMinn County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Rhea County Golden Eagles 6-5. That's two games straight that the Cherokees have won by just one run.

Bailey Derrick spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Brooklyn Barnett was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Trinity Riedel was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

McMinn County pushed their record up to 6-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rhea County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

McMinn County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-0 defeat against Heritage on the 14th. As for Rhea County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-9 victory against Cookeville on the 14th.
