Softball Game Preview: East Surry Cardinals vs. Ashe County Huskies

The East Surry Cardinals will face off against the Ashe County Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for East Surry's offense. They came up short against West Forsyth on Thursday, falling 10-0. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ashe County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Watauga a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Huskies have won four matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maleah Lovell made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ally Greer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nadilyn Eason, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Ashe County pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Surry, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
