Baseball Game Preview: Fort Lupton Bluedevils vs. SkyView Academy Hawks

The Fort Lupton Bluedevils will head out on the road to take on the SkyView Academy Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Lupton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Fort Lupton will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Greeley Central on Wednesday. The Bluedevils came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 12-7. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bluedevils as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Josiah Gonzales made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Fort Lupton is 2-1 when Gonzales allows three or fewer earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Gonzales was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Cade Rhoda was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Lupton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jesse Ceretto, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

Fort Lupton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

SkyView Academy not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 33-4). They put the hurt on Denver Academy with a sharp 26-2 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Fort Lupton's record now sits at 7-12. As for SkyView Academy, their record is now 9-4.
