Baseball Recap: Douglas Triumphs

Douglas never let their opponents score on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Rio Rico Hawks 1-0. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.

Isidro Hoyos was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Douglas is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Hoyos was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Hoyos wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trase Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was Rodriguez's first of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Douglas and bumps their season record up to 10-8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Rio Rico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

Looking ahead, Douglas will venture away from home to face off against Thatcher at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.44 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rio Rico, they will be playing at home against Amphitheater at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
