Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Triumphs

St. Mary gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes 4-3. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Buffaloes recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Ryan Strub spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Ron Karin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Eberhart, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

St. Mary's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Machebeuf only posted a batting average of .077.

St. Mary's now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Bishop Machebeuf, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will square off against Lamar at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Bishop Machebeuf, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mountain Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
