Softball Game Preview: Chapin Eagles vs. North Myrtle Beach Chiefs

The Chapin Eagles will face off against the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chapin took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Mid-Carolina. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since March 19th.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Myrtle Beach walked away with it. They never let the Gators get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Chiefs, who have now won four contests in a row.

Nealy Lockner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Lilly Carney was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Isabella Bruno was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

North Myrtle Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

North Myrtle Beach's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chapin, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.
