Football Game Preview: Saegertown Panthers vs. Maplewood Tigers

The Saegertown Panthers will face off against the Maplewood Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maplewood took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Saegertown, who comes in off a win.

Saegertown gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They walked away with a 30-21 win over Mercer. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

William Shaffer had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 105 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 162 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Saegertown's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Milan Harrison was another key player, picking up 96 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 40 points the game before, Maplewood was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell just short of Conneaut Area by a score of 14-12. While the Tigers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Eagles 6-0.

Saegertown will have to contain Kyle Jordan as he made an impact in Maplewood's last game. He rushed for 124 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 67 yards and one TD on only six passes.

Maplewood's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Saegertown, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Saegertown has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 157.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Maplewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 185 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything went Saegertown's way against Maplewood in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Saegertown made off with a 23-0 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
