Baseball Recap: Scottsburg Gets the Win

After losing to Brownstown Central the last time they met, Scottsburg decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against the Braves on Monday, sneaking past 3-1.

Garrett McClellan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brandt Kendall, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Cox, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Scottsburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Scottsburg's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Brownstown Central, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scottsburg will take on Seymour at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 3.7, the Owls 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Brownstown Central, they will head out to square off against Mitchell at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Braves are facing the Bluejackets at the right time seeing as the Bluejackets are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
