Football Recap: Selma Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Robert Lytle and Samarion Woods

If Selma was feeling good fresh off their 36-10 takedown of Montevallo two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Saints lost 38-14 to the Shelby County Wildcats on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Saints of the 43-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Selma had strong showings from Samarion Woods, who rushed for 99 yards on only seven carries, and Robert Lytle, who rushed for 106 yards and one TD. Lytle's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 106 rushing yards.

Selma's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Shelby County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.

Selma has already played their next matchup, a 41-38 loss against Sipsey Valley on the 24th. As for Shelby County, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on East Limestone at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
